On 11th and 12th August 2023, the third Tanzanian poetry festival organized by UKUTA (Usanifu wa Kiswahili na Ushairi Tanzania) celebrated Swahili poetry and cultural narratives at DUCE campus. The festival encompassed poetic narrations, traditional dances, academic presentations, dialogues and inauguration of books.
The festival was featured by the registrar of sports association from the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports, Hon. Evody Kyando who set the tone for the festival’s commencement.
The event that gathered poets from Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar was graced by the Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports, Hon. Ambassodor Dr. Pindi Hazara Chana.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Chana commended DUCE for hosting such an incredible event which contributes to the promotion of Kiswahili and African culture in its broad-spectrum.
Categorically, the event embraced power of artistic expressions and cultural engagement that activates a sense of unity and national identity among Swahili speakers.
