As part of the effective implementation of the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) project, a team of social and gender specialists from the College, recently visited the construction site to assess the project's progress.
The team comprised Dr. Ramadhan Kigume, a social specialist; Dr. Ikupa Moses, a gender specialist; and Ms. Mercy Hozza, an inclusive education specialist. Their visit aimed to ensure compliance with social, gender, and inclusivity standards in the ongoing construction work.
During a brief meeting at the site, the specialists emphasised the importance of adhering to health and safety measures. They highlighted the need for adequate safety gear for workers and the availability of health facilities to safeguard the well-being of all personnel. Additionally, they urged the contractor to foster a positive public image by engaging with the local community, particularly by consulting neighbouring residents when recruiting labour.
In response, Consultant Engineer, Peter Muhacha and Human Resource Officer, Ms. Shezna Shabeck affirmed their commitment to meeting all requirements stipulated in the signed contract agreement. They assured the specialists that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure the project's successful and socially responsible execution.
This collaborative engagement highlights the HEET project's commitment to prioritising safety, inclusivity, and community involvement throughout its implementation.
