On 25th July 2024, the Faculty of Education conducted a teaching practice (TP) workshop for supervisors. The objective of the workshop was to share TP past experiences with supervisors in order to improve the current TP exercise.

Presenting the welcoming note, the TP coordinator, Dr. Kondrada Haule emphasized that supervisors should take the activity very seriously since TP is an integral part of the university examination.  

The workshop was officiated by the Deputy Principal (Academic, Research and Consultancy), Dr. Christina Raphael. In her opening remarks, Dr. Raphael said this exercise bridges a gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications, ensuring that student teachers are well guided in classroom management.

The event was also attended by the Deputy Principal (Planning, Finance and Administration), Prof. Method Semiono. In his speech, Prof. Semiono instructed supervisors to mentor students in classroom delivery, ethical standards and professional growth. He also cautioned supervisors to observe financial management and codes of conduct in general.

The Dean of Faculty of Education, Dr. Joel Kayombo, opened the discussion and emphasized the role of revised TP regulations and procedures. Other facilitators presented their topics on TP preparations, assessment tools, assessment process and feedback provision, quality assurance matters, personal and customer care matters, supervisors’ responsibility and submission of results. TP facilitators were Dr.  Rehema Mwakabenga, Dr. Josta Nzilano, Dr. Hezron Onditi, Dr. Mabula Nkuba and Dr. Thadei Sagamiko.   

TP is organized for eight weeks of which student teachers are exposed to actual school situation. TP at the University of Dar es Salaam takes place at the end semester II each year for first year and second year students pursuing Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Science with education and Bachelor of Arts with education. TP workshop is an important academic activity as it aims to improve teaching supervision and strengthen the relationship between the College, schools, and the community at large.
