On 24th April 2023, DUCE and Temeke Municipality played a friendly match at DUCE sports grounds with the aim of commemorating the 59 years anniversary of the Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar. The event was also aimed at maintaining unity and good relations between the two neighboring institutions.
The event was officiated by Temeke District Commissioner, Hon. Mwanahamisi Munkunda, who was accompanied by the Temeke Executive Municipal Director, Hon. Elihuruma Mabelya, District Administrative Officer, Ms. Bupe Mwakibete and various political leaders.
Delegates from Temeke Municipality were hosted by DUCE special team led by the Deputy Principal (Planning, Finance and Administration), Prof. Method Samwel Semiono, in collaboration with the Head of the Communication and Marketing Unit, Dr. Lameck Mpalanzi. The event was also attended by sportsmen, staff, students, artists, stakeholders and motivational groups.
The sports competitions involved football and netball matches. DUCE and Temeke Municipality football team drew on 1-1 aggregate. On the other hand, the DUCE netball team won 24-11 goals.
Speaking at the commemoration event, Hon. Munkunda expressed her sincere gratitude to DUCE Management for agreeing to cooperate with Temeke Municipality in sports activities. In addition, she also appreciated the role played by all the participants who made the event possible. She emphasized that sports improve body fitness and health.
Speaking on behalf of DUCE Principal, Dr. Mpalanzi welcomed all participants to DUCE, and used such opportunity to inform the public that DUCE in collaboration with TBC intend to hold an open debate about Union issues.
