DUCE has continued its participation in the Uhuru Torch Race in Temeke District. On May 9, 2024, DUCE, along with other public institutions in Temeke District, warmly received the Uhuru Torch at Tazara Grounds. The preparation committee for the Uhuru Torch Race was organized by Temeke District Commissioner, Hon. Sixtus Mapunda, with support from both private and government institutions.

The Uhuru torch race was supported with the slogan ‘Tunza Mazingira na Shiriki Uchaguzi wa Serikali za Mitaa kwa Ujenzi wa Taifa Endelevu, to mean ‘Conserve the environment and participate in Local Government Election for building of a sustainable nation’. Also, this year’s Uhuru Torch race commemorates 25 years since the death of the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, the First President of Tanzania.

Speaking during the event, the District Commissioner, Hon. Sixtus Mapunda said the race will cover 81.4 kms within a district, where 8 development projects worth 27.4bn/- would be inaugurated.

During the event, District Commissioner Hon. Sixtus Mapunda announced that the race would cover 81.4 kilometers within the district. He also highlighted that eight development projects, totaling 27.4 billion shillings, would be inaugurated.

The Uhuru torch exhibitions continued with over-night cerebrations at Zakhem ground - Mbagala. At such ground, some institutions provided health services such as donating blood and testing of diseases including HIV, diabetes and blood pressure.

Uhuru torch race offers an opportunity for all Tanzanians to learn about the history of their nation, stimulate and mobilize the development activities, as well as building solidarity among Tanzanians.
