Managers receive a dose on sextortion

Managers at the College attended a special seminar on sexual harassment yesterday.

The seminar was organized by Gender Unit and aimed at building capacity and identifying strategies to mitigate sextortion.

Speaking at the event the College Principal Prof. Stephen Maluka, said although sexual harassment takes place in great secrecy, the its effects are of great concern to the management.

The Principal said that the College implements zero-tolerance-to-sextortion policy through which cases of sextortion attract severe disciplinary action.

The seminar facilitator Dr. Rose Mwaipopo, a gender analyst, lecturer and researcher at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), said that there is need to be more transparent on sextortion issues to protect those who are vulnerable.

Gender Unit Coordinator, Dr. Consolata Chua, disclosed that the College has put in place regulations and policies - Gender Policy, Anti-sexual Harassment Policy, Student’s By-laws, and the gender desk at Auxiliary Police.
