NICHOLAS NICHOLAS NGONDO NDITI

(Associate Professor)

Professor Nditi was born on the 3rd January 1950 at Ruanda, in Mbinga District of Ruvuma Region. He graduated his LL.B in 1975 at the University of Dar es Salaam. Furthermore, he obtained his LL.M. and Ph.D degrees in 1978 and 1988 respectively, at the University of Dar es Salaam. Professionally, Professor Nditi was also an Advocate of the Court of Appeal of Tanzania, High Court of Tanzania and courts subordinate thereto except primary courts.

In his academic career, Professor Nditi was employed at the University of Dar es Salaam for the first time as a Tutorial Assistant, the position he served from April 1976 to January 1978, when he was promoted to the post of an Assistant Lecturer. He worked on this post until May 1981, when he was further promoted to the post of a Lecturer in June 1981. Furthermore, in 1990, he was promoted to the post of Senior Lecturer, the position he served until 2005, when he was promoted to the post of Associate Professor. At the time of his death, he was still an Associate Professor.

Professor Nditi was also an administrator because he had served the University of Dar es Salaam in various capacities. He was an Associate Dean (Administration) from July to December 1985. He was also an Associate Dean (Academic) from December 1990 to December 1994. In addition thereto, Professor Nditi was the Head of the Department of Economic Law from July 2000-2006.

Before coming to the University of Dar es Salaam Professor Nditi had worked as a Legal Intern in the Attorney General’s Chambers, Judiciary and Tanzania Legal Corporation. This internship started in April 1975 and ended in March 1976, when he joined the University of Dar es Salaam.

Beyond and parallel to his academic career, Professor Nditi undertook various legal consultancies both in Government and in Private Sector Projects. He also facilitated and conducted trainings to private and private institutions in various workshops on various aspects of law, including public procurement and labour laws. At the same time, he served as an of various law reports including The Law Report of Tanzania, Tanzania Law Reports, Tanzania Tax Law Reports. He was also an Editor – In- Chief of the Eastern African Law Review.

In his areas of expertise, Professor Nditi published books, chapters in books, articles in referred journals and research papers. His most famous book is the General Principles of Contract Law in East Africa.

Professor Nditi died in Dar es Salaam on the 27th day of January 2021 at the age of 71. May his Soul Rest in Peace. Amen.
