Prof Jwani Timothy Mwaikusa (Associate Professor ) (1952-2010)

Jwani Timothy Mwaikusa was an Associate Professor of Law at the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law (now Department of Public Law). He also served as the Head of the same Department in different periods. Professor Mwaikusa joined the University in 1986 from the then Institute of Development Management (IDM) - (Now Mzumbe University).

Professor Mwaikusa obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.) in 1981 from the University of Dar-es-Salaam, a Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) in 1985 from the University of Birmingham and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D.) in 1995 from the University of London. He specialized in administrative law, human rights and constitutional law and contributed significantly to the development of the law in the Court of Appeal of Tanzania in these areas.

Prof. Mwaikusa was an Advocate, Notary Public and Commissioner for Oaths and a senior member of the Tanganyika Law Society and the East Africa Law Society; the Bar Associations for Tanzania mainland and East African countries, respectively. He was one of the few lawyers in Tanzania who was fluent in the French language, enabling him represent clients at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) in Arusha.

Prof. Mwaikusa published extensively in the areas of constitutional law, human rights and administrative law. He died in July 2010.
