Appointment of Heads of Public and Economic Law Departments

The Dean of University School of Law wishes to inform the staff, the university community and the public that the Vice-Chancellor, UDSM, has appointed Heads of Departments (HoDs) for the triennium (2018-2021) at the UDSM. Accordingly, at the UDSoL, Dr Sostenes Materu (pictured below) has been appointed to head the Public Law Department. Dr Materu was heading the same department is the 2015/18 triennium. Dr Materu has a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL. B (Hons)-2008) from University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; Master of Laws Degree (LL.M (Cum Laude)-2011) from University of the Western Cape, South Africa; and a Doctor of Laws Degree (Dr. Iuris (Summa Cum Laude-2014) from Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany. 

On the other hand,  Dr. Daniel. Shayo (pictured below) has been appointed the head of the  Economic Law Department. Dr Shayo has a Bachelor of Law degree (LL. B-2001), University of Dar es Salaam; Master of Law degree (LL.M -2004), University of Dar es Salaam; Master of Law in Germany Laws (LL.M-2014), and Doctor of Laws (Dr. Iuris -2016), Universität Konstanz, Germany. Dr Shayo’s areas of specialisation include the Laws of Business Associations, Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility; Competition Law, Capital Markets and Securities Law and Tax Law. Dr Shayo is also an Advocate of High Court of Tanzania, Commissioner for Oaths, and Notary Public.

The Dean and the UDSOL Staff congratulate Dr Materu and Dr Shayo for this deserving appointment and undertake to give them the necessary cooperation in the course of discharging their responsibilities.
