Departments

Academic Departments  In 2020/21, the six major academic departments were Chemical and Processing Engineering (CPE), Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE), Structural and Construction Engineering (SCE), Transportation and Geotechnical Engineering (TGE) and Water Resources Engineering (WRE).


These departments provide undergraduate and postgraduate engineering education, research and outreach programs devoted to improve product quality, plant capacity utilization and product diversification.  Besides, they provide expert professional services in the form of consultancy and services to industry, government and other organizations.

  1. Department of Chemical and Processing Engineering (CPE) provides education, research and outreach focusing on the sustainable development of chemicals, materials, minerals and the science and technology of non-renewable resources products from natural and recycled materials.  In 2020/21, the Head of Department was Dr. Mahir Mohammed Said.
  2. Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) serves the Tanzanian society by providing education, research, and public outreach programs in electrical engineering for the benefit of the nation, and the international community.  In 2020/21, the Acting Head of Department was Dr. Francis Mwasilu.
  3. Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) provides training, research and public services through consultancy in the fields of mechanical engineering, industrial engineering as well as in textile engineering and design. Mechanical engineering covers sub-disciplines of energy production and applications, manufacturing and design of mechanical and related systems. The industrial engineering and textile fields cover optimization of industrial, product and service delivery, and design, production and processing of materials for textile products, respectively.  In 2020/21, the Head of Department was Dr. Innocent Macha.
  4. Department of Structural and Construction Engineering (SCE) provides structural and construction engineers capable of designing and constructing engineering projects.  In 2020/21 the Department was headed by Dr. Fatma Mohamed.
  5. Department of Transportation and Geotechnical Engineering (TGE) deals with the planning, design, operation, and management of transportation facilities.  Besides, TGE provides geotechnical engineers capable of working with data from soil and rock samples to specify the requirements for man-made structures and earthworks that will be built on a site. These structures include shallow foundations (footings), deep foundations (piles and drilled piers), retaining walls, dams, embankments etc.  In 2020/21, the Head of Department was Dr. Siya Rimoy.
  6. Department of Water Resources Engineering (WRE) offers programmes in the fields of water resources, environmental and sanitation engineering.  In 2020/21, the Head of Department was Dr. Augustina Alexander
  • Training Workshops Department (TW) provides practical training skills in various engineering disciplines, which are organised into eight individual workshops including Carpentry; Masonry; Welding, Forging and Casting; Electrical; Bench Work; Machine Shop Practice; Electronics; and Chemical and Process Engineering.  In 2020/21, the Head of TW was Mr. Majili Killo.

  •  Coordinators of Academic Affairs In 2020/21, Coordinators of academic affairs included the Undergraduate Studies Coordinator; Postgraduate Studies and Research Coordinator; Time Table Coordinator; Practical Training Coordinator; and Chief Editor of the Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET) and Publications.

 

(i)      The Office of Postgraduate Studies and Research (PGS&R)

The Office of Postgraduate Studies and Research coordinates all activities related to postgraduate programmes and affairs, which include teaching and learning, research, projects and others. In the year 2020/21, Dr. Paul Ndumbaro was the Coordinator of Postgraduate Studies and Research.

(ii)      The Office of Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET) and Publications

The Office of publications was responsible with the coordination of all publications at the College specifically submissions to the Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology and other journals in the country and abroad. In year 2020/21, .................. coordinated all matters related to publications as well as the Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET).

(iii)     The Office of Undergraduate Studies (UGS)

The Office of Undergraduate Studies coordinates all activities related to undergraduate academic programmes and affairs, which include teaching and learning, final year students' projects and others.  In year 2020/21, Dr. Joseph Kihedu was the Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies at College level.

(iv)     Practical Training (PT) Office

This Office coordinates Practical Training (PT) activities of undergraduate students in industries and other related matters.  In 2020/21, Dr. Mahamudu Mtebwa coordinated all matters related to practical training to industry at College level.

(v)      The College Time Table Coordinator

The Time Table Coordinator was responsible for coordinating all matters related to the College teaching and examinations time table and ensuring that class schedules run smoothly. Dr. Emmanuel Fungo coordinated all matters related to the College timetable in the year 2020/21.


 College Planning and Resource Mobilization (P&RM) Office: Dr. Victoria Mahabi was the Coordinator of Planning and Resource Mobilization in the year 2020/21.  He was in charge of all matters related to planning and resource mobilization at College level.

College Finance Office (CFO) :This Unit controlled and administered all College financial matters which include college funds and accounts.  In 2020/21, Ms. Asha H. Hassan  was the College Financial Controller.

 Central Technical Services (CTS): The CTS Department provides technical services to the College including maintenance, rehabilitation, repairs and transport services. CTS Department was also responsible for the oversight of store and procurement services.  In 2020/21, the CTS Department was headed by Mr. Jovint Kamara.
