Dr. Vincent Chambo is a medical doctor and academic staff member at the University of Dar es Salaam, with a professional focus on psychiatry and mental health. His work integrates clinical care, teaching, and research at the intersection of HIV, mental health, and substance use disorders. He has research experience in HIV prevention among adolescents and is actively involved in the care of people living with HIV, including individuals receiving methadone-assisted therapy. His interests include integrated HIV–mental health services, harm reduction, and improving care for vulnerable populations in Tanzania.
Integrated HIV and Mental Health Care:
Research on models that integrate HIV services with mental health screening, treatment, and psychosocial support to improve adherence, retention in care, and overall wellbeing of people living with HIV in low-resource settings.
Substance Use Disorders and Harm Reduction:
Focus on prevention and management of substance use disorders, including alchol and opioid use disorder, with emphasis on harm reduction approaches such as methadone-assisted therapy and their role in HIV prevention and treatment outcomes.
HIV Prevention among Adolescents and Other Vulnerable Populations:
Examination of behavioral, social, and structural factors influencing HIV risk among adolescents and marginalized populations, and development of targeted, culturally appropriate prevention interventions.
HIV-Related Neuropsychiatric Conditions:
Study of neuropsychiatric manifestations associated with HIV infection and antiretroviral therapy, including cognitive, mood, and psychotic disorders, and their implications for clinical care and quality of life.
Stigma, Adherence, and Health Systems Approaches:
Research on the impact of stigma, mental illness, and health system barriers on adherence and clinical outcomes among people living with HIV, with a focus on health system–level interventions in low-resource settings.
