Chinese Language Instructor | Confucius Institute, University of Dar es Salaam
Joseph Israel Gurti is a Tanzanian educator and researcher currently serving as a Chinese Language Instructor at the Confucius Institute, University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), a position he has held since 2022. He was born on 30 May 1994 in Antsi Village, Mbulu District, Manyara Region, Tanzania, and currently resides in Dar es Salaam. Mr. Gurti holds a Master of Science in Physics from North China Electric Power University and a Master of Chinese Language, establishing a strong dual academic background in both scientific research and Chinese language education. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education (Physics and Chemistry) from the University of Dar es Salaam, laying a solid foundation for his career in teaching and cross‑cultural instruction.
Mr. Gurti possesses extensive teaching experience at both secondary and tertiary levels. He has taught Physics and Mathematics at Bargish Secondary School and Karatu Boys High School, and during his graduate studies in China, he served in academic administration at the International Education Institute Office, North China Electric Power University. His professional experience combines science education, administrative practice, and Chinese language instruction, making him well‑rounded in educational practice and cross‑cultural communication.
As an outstanding and widely recognized educator, Mr. Gurti has earned numerous prestigious awards at national and international levels. He is a two‑time winner of the Chinese Bridge Competition for foreign students in Tanzania (2018, 2019), received the Sino‑African Friendship Scholarship, and was honored as an Outstanding Student by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Tanzania. In 2023, he was awarded the Special Contribution Award for Chinese Language Teaching by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Tanzania in recognition of his excellent performance and dedication. In 2025, he was officially appointed to represent local Chinese teachers at the World Summit of Chinese Language Education in Beijing, and in the same year, he won the Best Style Teacher Award in the World Chinese Local Teachers Teaching Competition.
In addition to his teaching career, Mr. Gurti is an active researcher with multiple publications in reputable international journals. His research focuses on computational physics, cluster science, molecular activation, and stability analysis of energy systems. His work has been published in journals including Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, ChemPhysChem, Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology, and other indexed publications, demonstrating his strong academic research capacity and interdisciplinary potential.
