Summary

Prof. Mahugija is an Associate Professor in Chemistry Department, University of Dar es Salaam. He holds a PhD and MSc in Analytical and Environmental Chemistry obtained from the University of Dar es Salaam & German Research Centre for Environmental Health, Munich-Germany in 2011 and 2004, respectively. He also holds a BSc (Ed) (First Class Honours) (Biology, Chemistry and Education) obtained from the University of Dar es Salaam in 2001. He has held many administrative and technical posts at the University of Dar es Salaam and other national and international institutions. He actively conducts, organizes and participates in teaching, research, consultancies, public services, leadership, conferences, workshops, courses, and special duties in national and international organizations, institutions and communities. He has visited many countries, including Austria, Bangladesh, Benin, Egypt, Ethiopia, Germany, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Netherlands, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Sweden, Scotland-United Kingdom, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, and Zambia.

Work Experience

He undertakes many special duties, consultancy and public services in government and community institutions including being Guest of honour at various events.

Analytical Chemistry and Environmental Chemistry: Analysis of organic and inorganic chemicals and contaminants such as pesticides, hydrocarbons, Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), aldehydes, drugs of abuse, proteins, pharmaceuticals and metals in environmental samples, foods, human samples, biological samples, industrial products and others.
  2. Instrumental analytical techniques such as Gas Chromatography (GC-MS, GC-ECD, GC-NPD), Liquid Chromatography (LC-MS, LC-MS/MS, HPLC), Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS), and others.

  2. The Food Security Programme 2009–2014: Principal investigator, Analysis of pesticides and persistent organic pollutants in the environment and edible biota in Tanzania, funded by SIDA.

Obtained new indexing in reputable international databases, e.g. Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience International, UK (CAB International or CABI)–CAB Direct, CAB Abstracts, Global Health, EBSCO, Crossref, and continued indexing in African Journals Online (AJOL). Obtained and assigned Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to articles.
