Biography

Dr. Ophery Ozias Ilomo is a Principal Laboratory Scientist in the Department of Chemistry, College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CoNAS), University of Dar es Salaam. He holds a diploma in Science education (Physics and Chemistry) from Mkwawa College of Education, a Bachelor of Education degree (BEd. Science Hons), a Master of Science in Chemistry Degree (MSc Chemistry), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Aquatic Science Degree (Ph.D. Aquatic Science), all degrees from the University of Dar es Salaam.

Dr. Ilomo joined the University of Dar es Salaam as a staff member in 2021. He is a scientist with extensive experience and specialization in laboratory instrumentation, general chemical analytical and electroanalytical methods and validation, renewable polymer resources, pollution, and sea surface temperature (SST) reconstructions. He is also a marine geochemist. 

He is a member of various national and international organizations, including TBS, EASC, ARSO, ISO, and OA Africa. TBS has awarded him a standard development recognition award in 2023.

  • Investigation of the water quality of boreholes in the Kinondoni and Temeke districts of Dar es Salaam City. 2002-2003.
  • Fate of Heavy metals in sewage-impacted and non-impacted mangrove-fringed creeks of, Kenya, Tanzania, and Mozambique. (Assistant researcher in Tanzania) 2006-2007.
