Dr. Edista Alex Abdallah is a Tanzanian Geoscientist and water resources professional with extensive expertise in geology, sustainable development, hydrology, water resources management, renewable energy, and climate change. Recently earned her PhD in Geology at the University of Dar es Salaam (2018–2025), Dr. Abdallah holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Climate Change and Sustainable Development (2014–2017) and M.Sc. in Water Science and Engineering (Hydrology & Water Resources) from UNESCO-IHE, Delft, Netherlands (2010–2012). She earned her Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) with Geology from the University of Dar es Salaam in 2006.
With over 15 years of research and professional experience, Dr. Abdallah has contributed significantly to hydro-geochemical investigations, geothermal resource evaluation, geohazard assessments, and groundwater management. Her notable projects include the investigation of groundwater inundation in Moshi Town (2022–present), hydro-geochemical studies of hot springs in the Lake Natron Rift Basin (2018–2024), and geothermal resource evaluation in the Gregory Rift (2013–2017). She has also trained small-scale miners in Tanzania on environmental protection and climate change adaptation.
Dr. Abdallah has participated in international seminars and professional courses, including the Geological Disaster Prevention Platform seminar in China (September 2023), the ANU professional short course on Grid Integration of Renewable Energy (June 2023).
