Biography

Dr. Ignas Fedeo is a Lecturer in the Department of Literature, College of Humanities at the University of Dar es Salaam. Being an early career scholar, Dr. Fedeo specialises in oral literature and African folklore in general. His research interests are in folklore, especially the voice, perception, and experience of local people on issues of gender, culture, economy, politics, and history in their society delivered through their folklore. The central thesis of his research interest is that local people in Africa have their ways of constructing and reconstructing issues in their society, which embed aspects such as culture, history and politics into their traditional beliefs and experience. Additionally, Dr. Fedeo is interested in how folklore serves as a tool through which Africans express their cultural values and beliefs, which shape their attitudes, perceptions, point of view, and philosophy of life. Dr. Fedeo has published six journal articles and submitted three, which are under consideration by International peer-reviewed journals. Most of his research articles are on folklore, especially the narratives of local people.

Based on his research interests, Dr. Fedeo has received four grants since the completion of his PhD in 2022. The grants include the Thesis Results Dissemination Grant by the British Institute in East Africa (2022), University of Dar es Salaam Competitive grants (2022-2023), Academic Writing Workshop at Makerere University (2023) and Southern Africa Writing Workshop by the British Academy (2024-2025). Most of his grants are for research in African folklore.
