Biography

Nelson Kimaro is currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science at the University of Essex in United Kingdom, starting in January 2025, under University of Essex Studentship award. His research is centered on adaptive embedded hardware systems for Net Zero, with a focus on enhancing energy efficiency and extending the active lifetime of IoT devices through hardware/software co-design and AI techniques for sustainable computing.

 

Nelson received the UDSM-HEET scholarship to pursue an MSc in Electronic Engineering at the University of Essex (2023-2024), where he developed real-time tasks allocation and scheduling algorithms for FPGA-based multicore systems. He also earned a diploma in Drone Technology for Computer Vision Applications from the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in 2024.

 

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Science and Communication from the University of Dar es Salaam (2018-2021), where he co-founded the ICT Students' Society (UISS) and led ICT-related project training for over 200 students.

 

Beyond academia, Nelson has hands-on experience in ICT project implementation, specializing in IP/analog CCTV systems, structured cabling, Ubiquiti Rocket M5 antenna configurations, intruder detection systems, and environmental monitoring for server rooms. He has also managed testing, commissioning, and project reporting.

Projects

  • Contributed to the development of prototypes for two key projects: 1) Smart Fishing Innovative Solutions for Effective Conservation and Sustainability of Tanzania’s Blue Economy, and 2) Intelligent Grid Systems.
  • Participated in the exhibition of Intelligent Grid Systems at UDSM Research Week 2022 and the 46th Dar es Salaam Trade Fair.
