Mr. Elia Lugano is a dedicated professional in metallurgy and mineral processing. He is currently a Senior Laboratory Engineer at the School of Mines and Geosciences (SoMG) at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). With a strong academic background in earth sciences, he began his career as a Process plant technician and then Metallurgist at North Mara Gold Mine (Barrick Gold Company), where he played a pivotal role in optimizing metal extraction processes. 

Following his tenure at Barrick Gold, Mr. Lugano worked as a Mineral Auditor for the Ministry of Minerals (Tanzania Minerals Audit Agency-TMAA), ensuring compliance and promoting sustainable mining practices in Tanzania. His expertise has positioned him as a respected figure in both industry and academia, where he passionately educates the next generation of engineers and scientists.

Outside of his professional work, Mr. Lugano is committed to clean cooking energy, environmental conservation, and community development, actively participating in initiatives to support education in science and technology. His contributions continue to impact the mining sector positively and inspire others.
