A commanding display by the University of Dar es Salaam Staff Football Team (UDSM FC) on Thursday, 9 October 2025, sees them crush Magnet Academy U20 with an emphatic 5–0 win in a friendly match played at a local ground in Dar es Salaam.
Despite their youthful energy, Magnet Academy struggled to cope with the experience, tactical discipline, and physical strength of the UDSM side. From the opening whistle, UDSM FC took control of the game and never relinquished their dominance.
The breakthrough came in the 17th minute when prolific striker Dr Armstrong Matogwa from the College of Social Sciences (CoSS) capitalised on a defensive lapse to give UDSM an early lead.
In the second half, UDSM tightened their grip on the contest. Salumu Juma from the College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CoNAS) netted twice in quick succession, scoring in the 48th and 53rd minutes, to stretch the lead to 3–0.
The pressure continued to mount for Magnet Academy as Zuvu Kitenge from UDSM Mbeya College of Health and Allied Sciences (MCHAS) added a fourth in the 68th minute. Just four minutes later, Kefa Mkongwa from the College of Engineering and Technology (CoET) completed the rout with a well-placed strike in the 72nd minute.
Well-Organised and Physically Strong Team
After the final whistle, both coaching benches reflected on the game. The UDSM technical team praised their players for executing the tactical plan with precision and maintaining composure throughout. Magnet Academy’s coach, meanwhile, acknowledged the defeat as a learning opportunity for his young side.
“We faced a well-organised and physically strong team. This loss shows us where we need to improve, and we will be back stronger for the rematch,” said the Magnet Academy coach.
The victory adds momentum to UDSM FC as they prepare for their next fixture in the Dar es Salaam Staff Sports League (DSSL) Tournament, where they are set to face the Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB) team on Saturday, 11 October 2025.
