The Vice Chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Prof. William A. L. Anangisye, has urged graduates of a specialised six-week engineering and technology training to leverage their expertise and modern tools to solve pressing global challenges and drive national economic growth.
Speaking through the Principal of the College of Engineering and Technology (CoET), Dr. Innocent Macha, at the closing ceremony on September 12, 2025, Prof. Anangisye emphasised that applying cutting-edge technologies is key to becoming the problem-solvers and innovators behind Tanzania’s industrial transformation.
“For our students, this training provides an invaluable head start for your future careers. The ability to apply modern tools and technologies whether in agriculture, mining, or engineering will distinguish you as catalysts for Tanzania’s industrial growth,” he stated.
He further highlighted that the skills acquired by academic staff would have a multiplying effect, enriching UDSM’s curricula and research for generations to come. “Do not let the knowledge you have gained remain with you alone. Share it. Apply it. Multiply it. That is how we will achieve the greatest impact”.
The Vice Chancellor extended sincere gratitude to the expert trainers from China’s Henan Province, Mr. Yin Bin, Mr. Liu Kaillang, and Mr. Chang Yunhao – for their dedication to building local capacity.
The intensive programmme covered critical areas such as blueprint comprehension, construction engineering, intelligent prefabricated building, remote sensing, photogrammetry, high-speed railway surveying, embedded systems, IoT, PLCs, and robotics.
“Your willingness to share knowledge and dedicate your time to strengthening our capacity embodies the true spirit of international cooperation. These modules are aligned with global industry needs and are being integrated into our new curriculum, enriching our teaching, research, and service delivery”, he said.
Prof. Anangisye underscored that technical education is fundamental to sustainable development and acknowledged the unwavering support of the People’s Republic of China. Looking ahead, he reaffirmed UDSM’s commitment to deepening this collaboration through continued training, joint research, exchanges, and curriculum development.
He envisioned the partnership leading to new laboratories, joint programs, and potential centres of excellence in engineering, mining, and agricultural technologies.
On behalf of the Chinese trainers, Mr. Yin Bin expressed appreciation for UDSM’s hospitality and the participants’ enthusiasm. “Your commitment made teaching here a meaningful experience. We have learned from you as well, and we carry this friendship back to China”.
The training immersed 30 staff and student participants in specialized instruction across civil engineering, mechatronics, and surveying technologies. It is a key part of UDSM’s strategic initiatives to bolster technical education, enhance competencies, and forge global partnerships that support Tanzania’s industrial advancement.
