With over a decade of experience in strategic planning, project management and policy formulation, Ms. Ndyamkama continues to drive the growth and development of UDSM, ensuring its position as a leader in education, research and innovation in Tanzania and beyond.

As a Planning Officer at the Directorate of Planning, Development, and Investments (DPDI), Ms. Ndyamkama plays a pivotal role in key university initiatives.

Her work encompasses strategic planning and policy development, assisting in the formulation and review of UDSM’s strategic plans, conducting research and preparing proposals and reports for management.

She is also deeply involved in project planning and management, overseeing development projects across UDSM’s campuses, monitoring progress and assessing feasibility.

“I am also engaged in university budgeting and resource allocation, where I assist in budget preparation and ensure proper distribution of financial resources,” shares a composed and humble Ms. Ndyamkama.

Additionally, she plays a crucial role in investment and resource mobilisation, identifying funding opportunities, conducting financial assessments for investment projects and leading data collection and analysis efforts to prepare reports and conduct impact assessments.

“One of my key responsibilities is stakeholder engagement, which involves coordinating with government agencies, funding partners and private sector stakeholders. I also oversee compliance and risk management, ensuring that development projects align with university policies and regulations,” she emphasises.

Ms. Ndyamkama’s dedication and contributions to DPDI were recognised when she was awarded the Best Employee at the Directorate of Planning, Development, and Investments—an accolade that highlights her unwavering commitment to excellence.

A solid academic foundation

Ms. Ndyamkama’s academic journey has been marked by determination and resilience. She earned her MSc in Public Policy Analysis and Programme Management from Ardhi University in 2016, following her Diploma in Social Development and later a Bachelor’s degree in Development Economics from Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy in 2012.

Her early education at Gedeli Primary School, Bukumbi Girls Secondary School and Nganza High School in Mwanza laid a strong foundation for her future success.

A professional career at UDSM

Ms. Ndyamkama’s professional career began at the University of Dar es Salaam Students Accommodation Bureau (USAB), where she served as a Warden and later became the Coordinator for the University and National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

“I played a crucial role in fostering collaboration between the two entities, ensuring students' well-being through streamlined accommodation and healthcare services,” she asserts.

She later transitioned to the Directorate of Planning, Development and Investments (DPDI), where she was assigned to oversee the Research Flats Project, a paid accommodation service for researchers.

“In this role, I managed income generation for the university, worked directly with customers and ensured the success of the project,” she explains.

Her outstanding performance led to her current role as a Planning Officer at DPDI, where she actively contributes to shaping the university’s strategic direction.

Family and personal drive

Ms. Ndyamkama’s success is deeply rooted in the values instilled by her family. Raised by a dedicated single mother—a secondary school teacher who later became a headmistress—she learned the importance of hard work, discipline and integrity.

“My mother’s commitment to her profession inspired me to approach my career with the same level of passion and dedication,” she recalls.

As the youngest in her family, Miriam received unwavering support from her older siblings throughout her academic and professional journey.

However, she credits her husband as one of her greatest pillars of strength. “Not only did he encourage me to pursue further education, but he also provided financial and emotional support, even funding my master’s degree. His unwavering belief in my potential motivated me to aim higher and achieve more,” she acknowledges.
