Dr. Mathew Agripinus Senga

Biography

Dr. Mathew Agripinus Senga is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Dar es Salaam, where he also serves as the University’s Director of Research and Publication (DRP). Dr. Senga holds a Bachelor of Arts (Sociology) and Master of Arts (Sociology) from the University of Dar es Salaam, as well as a PhD in Sociology from the University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland. His doctoral research utilized social network approaches of Exponential Random Graph Modelling (ERGM) and Stochastic Actor Oriented Modelling (SAOM). Dr. Senga has extensive experience in research, employing qualitative, quantitative, and social network analysis approaches, and he has published books, book chapters and articles in international peer review journals. He is proficient in the use of software such as Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS), R, UCINET, Pajek, and NVivo. Dr. Senga has taught various courses, including research methods in Bachelor of Sociology, Master of Sociology, Master of Public Health, Master of Research and Public Policy, and Master of Project Planning and Management Programmes at the University of Dar es Salaam. He also supervises postgraduate students in research. Dr. Senga is a member of editorial boards of various journals and a reviewer of numerous journals and the Social Science Research Council (SSRC). He has received prestigious awards, including the SSRC Next Generation Africa Doctoral Completion Fellowship, UCD - College of Human Sciences Graduate Research and Innovation Fund, European Science Foundation (ESF) Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences 2 (QMss 2) Scholarship, and the Irish Aid - Higher Education Authority (HEA). In addition to his research and consultancy work, Dr. Senga is a highly sought-after trainer and facilitator of workshops on research methods and techniques and research grant writing and applications. Institutions and organizations such as Partnership for African Social & Governance Research (PASGR)(where he developed a Curriculum on Social Network Analysis), Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Institute of Finance Management (IFM), National Defence College (NDC), Pathfinder International, USAID, PRB, and PACE have engaged Dr. Senga as a professional trainer.

2020-2024: Lead Social Science Researcher: RESBEN: Unlocking Resilient Benefits from African Water Resources. A Case of Great Ruaha River Basin Tanzania. International Collaborative Research funded by United Kingdom Research and Innovation, Global Challenges Research Funds – (UKRI-GCRF) and commissioned by the ARUA Water CoE to the University of Dar es Salaam, Department of Water Resources Engineering.

2019-2024: Lead-Socio-economic Component: Preparation of Integrated Water Resources Management and Development (IWRMD) Plan. Commissioned by the Ministry of Water (MoW) under Lake Victoria Basin Water Board (LVBWB) through UDSM Bureau for Industrial Cooperation (BICO).
