She is an Associate Professor of Human Geography and the current Principal of College of Social Sciences at the University of Dar es Salaam . Her work has been on conservation and development politics and seeks to explain how local and international development politics influence rural livelihoods, land tenure and security dynamics in Tanzania. She co-edited two recent books with Dan Brockington on ‘Prosperity in Rural Africa (2021) available here: DOI 10.1093/oso/9780198865872.001.0001 and with Stefano Ponte on ‘Contested Sustainability’ (2022) which is available here: DOI 10.1515/9781800105621. Other important publications include journal articles on Women’s Tears or Coffee Blight?
