Biography

Mpale Yvonne Mwansasu Silkiluwasha is a Senior Lecturer of Literature at the University of Dar es salaam in the Department of Literature. She hold a PhD in English Studies from Illinois State University, USA where she joined the program as a Fulbright Scholar. Her research interests are childhood studies; particularly, the intersection between children's literature and issues of marginality. Her most recent publications have been on the representation of children and young adults with disabilities and those living in the streets in children's stories together with the position of African culture in terms of language and orality in globalised literary texts.

Research Interest

Research on childhood and the representation of children from the margin (in terms of race, class, disability, and any form of otherness) in literary texts for children and young adults

Studying the survival of African orality as evident in modern songs and/or stories and compromises that are made albeit the survival.
