Biography

Salma Makuti is an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Department of Transportation and Geotechnical Engineering, a Fully Registered Land Surveyor, and a Geospatial expert with over 13 years of experience. She has a BSc in Geoinformatics from Ardhi University, an MSc in Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation from the University of Twente, an MSc Geomatics from Ardhi University, and now she is pursuing her PhD in Natural Resources Assessment and Management at UDSM researching on integrated geospatial approaches for the sustainable management of small wetlands, with particular attention to land use, hydrological dynamics and human-wetland interaction.

Her work engages critically with issues of flood risk, early warning systems and natural resource conflicts especially in pastoral and agricultural landscapes in Tanzania. She has contributed to academic and applied research addressing climate change adaptation employing interdisciplinary frameworks and spatial analysis. She is actively engaged in the AfroSAFE project, which aims to advance the adoption of the safe system approach to road safety in African countries by exposing practitioners and decision-makers to state-of-the-art road safety management knowledge.
