The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) continues to reaffirm its commitment to nurturing well-rounded excellence by celebrating outstanding student achievements that complement academic success, including in sports and creative disciplines.
Among the University’s rising talents is Mrisho Hussein Kitambi, a 21-year-old second-year student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Sports Science, whose exceptional flair, innovation, and technical mastery in freestyle football are steadily earning him wide recognition.
Renowned for his exceptional ball control, creativity, and discipline, Kitambi has distinguished himself as one of UDSM’s rising sports stars. His performances not only reflect personal dedication and hard work, but also underscore the university’s deliberate focus on developing student-athletes who excel both in the lecture hall and on the field.
“I want to grow freestyle football and create opportunities for young people to explore their talents in this sport,” Kitambi said, outlining his vision to inspire and mentor the next generation of athletes.
Looking ahead, Kitambi aims to extend his impact beyond the university by competing in national and international freestyle football events, establishing a leading freestyle football academy to nurture young talent, and serving as an ambassador for various sports development platforms.
Elevating the profile of freestyle football
Through these ambitions, he seeks to elevate the profile of freestyle football in Tanzania while promoting discipline, creativity, and innovation among youth.
UDSM’s sports administration has praised Kitambi’s progress as a reflection of the institution’s broader mission.
“Mrisho’s journey reflects the University’s commitment to nurturing talent, discipline, and innovation in sports. His ambition and dedication are an inspiration to all students,” noted Dr. Lulu Mahai, the Director of Social Services.
By supporting student-athletes like Mrisho Hussein Kitambi, UDSM continues to strengthen its reputation as a centre of excellence where academic distinction and sporting achievement go hand in hand. The University remains steadfast in providing an enabling environment that empowers students to realise their full potential.
