UDSM Unveils June 2026 Edition of Mlimani Newsletter, Showcasing Partnerships, Innovation and Global Engagement

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) has released the June 2026 edition of the Mlimani Newsletter, highlighting the University’s continued progress in strengthening partnerships, advancing inclusive education, promoting innovation, deepening international engagement, and celebrating the achievements of its alumni and students.
Published by the Directorate of Internationalization, Convocation and Advancement (DICA), the latest edition captures key developments and stories that reflect the vibrant academic, research, innovation and community life of UDSM.
The June 2026 edition also features a message from the Newsletter Patron, Ambassador John R. Ulanga, Director of the Department of Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation. In his message, Ambassador Ulanga calls upon UDSM alumni to remain connected to the University, give back to the institution and inspire the next generation. He also commends the University’s continued efforts in advancing education, research, innovation and partnerships, emphasizing the important role of alumni in contributing to UDSM’s growth and impact.
Among the key highlights is the University’s commitment to inclusive education, including the recognition of partners and sponsors whose contributions continue to support students and enhance the learning environment. The edition highlights scholarships benefiting more than 600 economically disadvantaged students and approximately TZS 4.6 billion mobilized towards the construction of a new Student Centre.
The Newsletter also features UDSM’s growing international outlook, including the historic visit of His Excellency Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore, who delivered a public lecture at UDSM on “Investing in the Drivers of Inclusive Growth.” The edition further showcases the University’s expanding international partnerships and efforts to transform collaborations into tangible academic, research and community impact.
Innovation takes centre stage through stories from the 2026 iMbeju-UDSM Startup Challenge, the Sweden-Tanzania innovation dialogue, and the achievements of UDSM researchers developing technologies with potential to transform artisanal gold mining and promote safer, more sustainable practices.
The edition also celebrates the achievements of UDSM students and alumni. It features Tukay David Thomas, a final-year Civil Engineering student who emerged as the winner of the National Foleni Challenge, as well as alumnus Engineer Seleli Andrew, whose professional journey in water and sanitation engineering demonstrates the continuing impact of a UDSM education.
Beyond achievements and institutional milestones, the Newsletter offers a glimpse into the Mlimani experience, featuring graduation, international student activities, cultural exchange, debate, alumni visits and some of the iconic landmarks that have shaped generations of UDSM students.
The June 2026 edition therefore serves as a reflection of a University that continues to connect knowledge with impact, strengthen relationships with its global community, and create opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.
