Golden Glory on the Field: UDSM Dominates TUSA Competitions with Championship Triumphs

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) has reaffirmed its status as a leading force in university sports after delivering outstanding performances at the recently concluded Tanzania Universities Sports Association (TUSA) Competitionsin in Dodoma, emerging as one of the tournament’s most successful institutions across multiple disciplines.
The highlight of UDSM’s impressive campaign was the women’s football team, who were crowned champions following a commanding and disciplined run throughout the competition. The title marks a significant milestone for the University and underscores its growing investment in women’s sports.
“This victory reflects the hard work, discipline and belief of our players, as well as the University’s commitment to nurturing women’s talent in sport,” said a member of the technical bench, describing the triumph as a proud moment for UDSM.
UDSM further extended its golden run with the men’s netball team clinching the championship title after an exceptional display of resilience, teamwork and tactical awareness. The victory reinforced the University’s reputation as a powerhouse in university-level netball.
“Our players showed character and unity in every match. This title belongs to the entire UDSM community,” a team official noted.
In basketball, UDSM teams continued to shine on the national stage. The men’s basketball team advanced to the final after a consistent and tactically mature campaign, while the women’s team finished as runners-up, earning admiration for their spirited and competitive performances.
Similarly, the men’s volleyball team reached the final, highlighting the depth of talent and effective preparation within the University’s sports programmes.
The men’s football team also recorded a strong showing, reaching the semi-final stage and earning a place in the third-place playoff. In handball, UDSM remained firmly in contention, with the men’s team set to contest the final match for second place, a result that could add another medal to the University’s growing tally.
Beyond team sports, UDSM athletes posted commendable performances in individual and precision disciplines, including woodball, table tennis and swimming, further contributing to the University’s overall success at the national university sports stage.
Commenting on the achievements, UDSM Director of Social Services, Dr. Lulu Mahai, said, “These results are a clear demonstration of UDSM’s holistic approach to student development. We invest in sport not only to win medals, but to build discipline, leadership and excellence among our students.”
The strong showing at the TUSA Competitions once again cements the University of Dar es Salaam’s reputation as a centre of excellence, where academic distinction goes hand in hand with sporting achievement.
