Dr. Dhelda Mfanga is a Lecturer in the School of Mines and Geosciences at University of Dar es Salaam. Before joining the University in 2007, she was a graduate mine engineer at North Mara Gold Mine in the section of drilling and blasting. Mfanga holds a B.Sc. in Mining Engineering, M.Eng. Mineral Resources engineering, specialized in rock mechanics, and PhD in Petroleum engineering, specialized in Reservoir Geomechanics.

At the University of Dar es Salaam, Dr. Mfanga is the head of the department of Petroleum Science and engineering (PSE), a new department established in 2020 at the new school of Mines and Geosciences (SoMG). She also teaches Rock mechanics & Drill and blasting courses to 2nd year undergraduate students and Mine Geotechnical Engineering to Masters students as well as supervising final year and postgraduate research students.

Dr. Mfanga was the first female student in Tanzania to pursue bachelor degree in the field of Mining Engineering in 2006. She has a vast knowledge and expertise of more the 10 years in the field of geomechanics. Her wide experience in the field of Mine /Reservoir Geomechanics/Geotechnical projects makes her competent and qualified person in the areas of stability of pit slopes and earth embankments, stability of underground excavations and wellbores as well as drilling and drilling fluids.
