The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) reaffirmed its commitment to fostering global academic collaborations as it hosted the prestigious 16th International Operations Research Society of Eastern Africa (ORSEA) conference recently.
Speaking at the opening of this conference, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor-Research, Prof. Nelson Boniface, emphasized that UDSM has always been at the forefront in advancing knowledge and innovation through partnerships with universities worldwide.
“UDSM, as Tanzania’s oldest and leading higher learning institution, has established itself as a hub for impactful collaborations. I thus encourage participants of this conference to engage with the University of Dar es Salaam Business School (UDBS) and other UDSM units for joint research and academic activities aimed at addressing global and regional challenges”, said Prof. Boniface.
The conference, which took place for two days from 21st to 22nd November, 2024 was graced by the Director General of the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), Plasduce Mbossa, as the Guest of Honour, who highlighted the vital role of research in enhancing port operations.
“Ports are dynamic environments. To improve them, we must rely on evidence-based decision-making. Collaborating with higher learning institutions like UDSM ensures that we stay ahead and develop innovative solutions to address operational challenges”, said Mr. Mbossa.
Jointly organized by UDSM, the University of Nairobi, and Makerere University, the ORSEA conference brought together regional researchers to exchange insights and present studies aimed at improving business practices.
This year’s theme, “Innovation and Insights in Operations Research for Resilience and Sustainability,” underscored the importance of innovation in building sustainable solutions for a resilient future.
The event demonstrated UDSM’s continued dedication to advancing academic excellence and regional collaboration for the betterment of society.
