BSc (Hons) (University of Dar es Salaam)

Short Bio

Mr. James Lusana is an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam. Mr. Lusana received his BSc in Fisheries and Aquaculture from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He obtained an MSc in Marine Biology from Zhejiang Ocean University, China while working on a joint project with Marine Fisheries Research Institute of Zhejiang. This work coupled molecular and morphological approaches to assess and characterize ichthyoplankton community structure in Zhejiang Coastal Waters. He is a marine biologist with a primary interest in molecular systematics, phylogeography, population and ecological genetics and genomics. In particular, his research focuses on integrating different fields of evolutionary biology towards a better understanding of marine biodiversity and the impacts of environmental changes on marine biodiversity, ecology and evolution.

Current Research Projects

Molecular identity and population genetic structure of sea cucumbers along the coast of Tanzania. Additionally, He is currently using DNA markers to resolve the taxonomic ambiguity in Halophila ovalis complex and Halodule genera in Tanzania. He is also investigating the population genetic structure and gene flow of the mud creeper Terebralia palustris in Tanzania. One more, understanding the Fisheries indigenous knowledge; opportunities, preservation and knowledge transfer in Tanzania.
