On 30th March 2021, The Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania has approved the appointment of our fellow UDSM Alumni Dr.Philip Isdor Mpango as the new Vice President of the URT.
Dr.Mpango graduated not only once but thrice at the Hill, He holds Ph.D. in Economics (1993-1996), Masters in Economics (1986-1988) and Bachelor Degree in Economics (1981-1984).

Dr. Mpango worked as a Lecturer at the Economics Department University of Dar es Salaam from 1988 to 2002.

Dr. Mpango was formerly the Minister for Finance and Planning of the URT, from Nov 2015-March 2021. He served different positions in different capacities such as; the Acting Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), the Executive Secretary in the President’s Office (Planning Commission), the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance & Economic Affairs, the Personal Assistant to the President (Economic Affairs).

He also worked as the Head of the President’s Economic Advisory Unit, Senior Economist for the World Bank, Visiting Lecturer in Public Economics, Collaborative Masters program for Anglo-phone Africa, AERC, Nairobi-Kenya.

UDSM is clearly delighted by the nature and tenor of his professional commitment and engagement and wishes him all the best in his new position as the Vice President of The United Republic of Tanzania.
