Dr. Nyanto appointed member of the Editorial Board of African History Review

The University of Dar es Salaam History Scholar Dr. Salvatory S. Nyanto has been appointed a member of the Editorial Board of African History Review for three years, effective from 1st November, 2022.

The news of this appointment to serve  in this prestigious global journal which is published by the reputable Routledge Taylor and Francis Group in collaboration with the University of South Africa (Unisa) Press, was communicated in a letter from the Unisa Chair of the Department of History, Dr. Sipokazi Madida.

“I am pleased to inform you of your appointment as a member of the Editorial Board of African History Review, a biannual peer-reviewed academic journal owned by the Unisa Department of History and published by Routledge Taylor and Francis Group in Collaboration with the Unisa Press”, stated the letter by Dr. Madida.

Dr. Madida further said that the purpose of the Editorial Board is primarily to provide advice on the effective management of all processes relating to the publication of high-quality manuscripts by the journal, and that the Department of History will furnish Dr. Nyanto with the Terms of Reference of this Editorial Board.

The African Historical Review (formerly Kleio: a Journal of Historical Studies from Africa) is an accredited, peer-reviewed journal with a long and distinguished history; originally conceived as a research and teaching forum for histories taught in the Department of History at Unisa and to promote the work of students and staff. It is now an international publication for high quality articles on a wide variety of historical subjects.

Dr Nyanto, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of History, College of Humanities and Director in the Office of the Vice Chancellor received this news with gratitude and honour to his department and the University of Dar es Salaam at large.

“I have unreservedly accepted this appointment. It is an honour bestowed upon myself, the department of history, and the University of Dar es Salaam”, said Dr. Nyanto.

Dr. Nyanto, a prolific history scholar, has researched extensively in the areas of Religion and Empire; Slavery and Missionaries; and Christian-Muslim relations. 

Currently, Dr. Nyanto is the chair of the editorial team for the book project on the History of Post-Colonial Tanzania, to be launched next year (2023), which will be titled ‘‘A History of Post-Colonial Tanzania: Essays in Honour of Prof. Isaria N. Kimambo’.

The book will cover various aspects such as post-colonial Tanzania, its neighbors and the external world; livestock development, urbanization and population dynamics; literary productions in post-colonial Tanzania; and development in law and dispensation of justice.
