LIBRARY GUIDES AND REGULATIONS

 

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Udsm-Mchas Library.

The Library seeks to support the College's teaching, learning, and research activities by providing innumerable information resources and services. To mention a few, the Library has a substantial amount of electronic and printed information resources with local and international research courage. To enhance the steady utilization of these resources, the Library is highly invested in human and technical resources with highly trained staff who are always happy to assist users in locating, retrieving, and using information.

 

MAJOR SECTION

The Library has three major sections namely, Check Point and Issue Desk, Reader and Information Service as well as Technical and Collection (Stock) Maintenance Service.

 

OPENING HOURS

The Library has two opening hours depending on academic calendars

 

During academic terms

Monday to Saturday                                             08:00 am-10:30pm

Sunday & Public Holidays                                    02:00pm-10:30pm

 

Vacation terms

 Monday-Friday                                                     08:00am-05:00 pm

 Saturday                                                               08:00am-01:30pm

 Sunday                                                                  Closed

 

ADMISSION AND MEMBERSHIP

All members of the college are entitled to use the library as readers

 

COLLECTIONS

The Library has two main collections namely, General and Reference Collection. The general collection is an open-access collection that allows readers to use books inside and outside the library but only if the number of copies is more than four. Also, Reference Collection includes all Referral materials such as Periodicals, Articles, and Journals.

 

ELECTRONIC RESOURCES

Currently, the Library has access to the following E-resources

   {I} Electronic journals

   {ii} Electronic resources

    {iii} E-books

    {iv} Article and Magazine.

Also, the Library has access to a website known as Up to Date Works as Medscape that allows users to access all updated information on medical issues.

 

LIBRARY SECURITY

The security of Library user properties is his /her responsibility. Users are not advised to bring valuable items with them to the Library, user is asked to leave all bags, folders, and coats at the cloak/bag deposit area after removing all valuable items. The Library shall not be held responsible for any loss of items. To be allowed into the Library a user must show an identity card. For users who are not members of UDSM-MCHAS Community membership cards must be presented before entering the library.

 

THEFT

Theft of library items is a criminal offense. The following acts shall be considered book theft and shall be punished accordingly:

 {i} Any act of trying to take out unborrowed library materials shall be considered attempted theft.

{ii} Any act of hiding library materials on the shelves in the toilets or anywhere else for use within the library is theft.

 

 LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATIONS

For UDSM-MCHAS Library to provide an atmosphere for the conductive use of all its services and facilities, the community is required to comply with the library rules and regulations listed before. Users in the library must respect the rights and privileges of all other users. The following are the rules and regulations users must follow within the Library:

{i} Idle conversation, loud laughter, and other unnecessary noise disturb library users and must therefore be avoided. Failure to observe silence will result in dismissal from the library and other disciplinary measures

{ii} Eating, smoking, and sleeping are not allowed in the library

{iii} Wearing coats, jackets, hats slippers is not allowed

{iv} Sexual acts, drinking displays, or use of weapons is not allowed in the library

{v} Personal hygiene is highly recommended

 

CONCLUSION

Please be informed that the Library discourages all kinds of discrimination acts, all users are treated and served equally regardless of any personal relationship with Librarians.
