University of Dar es Salaam Insurance Agency (UDIA) is fully owned by the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) and is registered under the Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA). The Agency operates under the Directorate of Planning, Development and Investment (DPDI). UDIA has signed an agreement of undertaking insurance agency business with three registered insurers, ICEA Lion General Insurance (T) Ltd, BRITAM Insurance (Tanzania) Ltd and the National Insurance Corporation (NIC), as per requirements of the Insurance Act No. 10 of 2009. The Agency focuses on the general insurance products, such as motor insurance, fire and allied perils, engineering, marine, aviation, theft, liability, accident, damage of property, cash and goods in transit, as well as all other general insurance products offered by insurers for which UDIA is their Agency. The Agency also advices, provides information and guides clients on the terms of insurance policy, basis for determining premiums, selection of insurance covers, compliance with insurers’ requirements, and supporting them with documentation to launch claims in case of loss, as well as following up settlement of claims raised and ensuring prompt settlement of claims by insurance companies. Generally, UDIA provides general insurance covers to the University community (staff and students) and the general public.
