Applying to UDSM

I: APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES

A). FULL-TIME STUDENTS:

There are slightly different application processes depending on what kind of programme you are interested in applying for.

If you want to apply for a complete degree, and if you do not already have a degree, please look under Undergraduate Application Procedures below.

If you already have a degree but would like to enroll for a full postgraduate degree, please see Postgraduate Application Procedures below.

B). SHORT-TERM AND OCCASIONAL STUDENTS:

A short-term student has a duration of studentship at UDSM for one academic year.

An occasional student is one whose duration of studentship is less than one academic year.

If you would like to study for one or two semesters only, please see the information under Semester Study Abroad Application Procedures below:

  • The applications must be submitted through the applicant’s University College/International Office which should, if it supports the application, send a letter of recommendation to UDSM.

Application period:

International Students are to apply at least 3 months before the beginning of a semester,

Undergraduate Students:

Required Documents include:

  1. Filled Application Form (available on download)
  2. Motivational Letter
  3. Letter of recommendation  from the academic department
  4.  Transcript of records in English
  5. Curriculum Vitae
  6. 4 passport size photos.
  7. Copy of a valid passport (traveling document)

C). VISITING STUDENTS

International students who stay at UDSM for more than one week and less than one semester are categorized as Visiting Students.

Visiting students must identify themselves with an academic unit (Colleges, Schools and Institutes), at UDSM and registered for either academic or/and research purposes.

Applications for enrolment as visiting students should be submitted to respective academic units.

The academic unit, upon satisfaction, to host the visiting students in terms of time, the relevance of the visit (academic or research) and financial implications, recommends the application to DICA.

DICA will then submit the application to the office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor -  Academic for approval and issuance of registration confirmation.

 

Application Requirements (to be attached to the application):

1.       Applicant must come from an academic institution

2.       Recommendation letter from their home academic institution

3.       Copy of traveling documents

4.       Motivation and visit purpose letter

5.       Proof of sponsorship of the visit

 

II: REGISTRATION

All international students must report to DICA on arrival to go through general registration formalities. Then, students will be directed to their respective Colleges/Schools/Institutes.

Before registration, all fresh International Students are required to attend the Orientation in order to learn more about their academic programmes and other registration procedures.

The University will only register students who have either paid all their fees, be it for a semester or per year.
