The European Union will invest further €10 million in projects to promote student and staff mobility in Africa under the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme. The third Call for proposals was published on 11 March 2019 with a deadline for submission of applications on 12 June 2019.

The Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Commission published on 11 March 2019 the third Call for proposals under the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme. The Agency is responsible for managing the programme in collaboration with the African
Union Commission (AUC) and under the supervision of the Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development of the European Commission.

The Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme supports higher education cooperation between countries in Africa. It provides financial support to partnerships of African higher education institutions (HEIs) for the organisation and the implementation of student and staff mobility in high
quality master and doctoral programmes within African countries. The overall objective of the scheme is to enhance human capital development in Africa. More specifically, it aims to increase the employability of students, improve the quality and relevance of higher education in Africa and to strengthen the modernisation and internationalisation of African higher education institutions.

The Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme is set up under the Pan-African Programme and is based on the experience of the Intra-ACP Academic Mobility Scheme. Fourteen projects were selected in 2016 and 2017 as a result of two Intra-Africa Calls for proposals.

The recently published third Call for proposals is open to higher education institutions from Africa. Applications must be submitted to EACEA in accordance with the conditions and timetable defined in the Call for proposals EACEA/03/2019. The Lead applicant institution submits the application on behalf of the partnership, which must be composed of minimum 4 and maximum 6 African higher education institutions (including the Lead applicant). In addition, a HEI from the EU, holding an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education, must be included in the partnership as technical partner. Each project budget is between €1 and 1.4 million. The deadline for submission of applications is 12 June 2019 at 12:00 (noon) Brussels Time.

The selected projects will receive a grant to cover the costs of the organisation of the mobility flows and the scholarships to be awarded to the selected students and staff.
