The Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Dar es Salaam wish to announce Two MSc. Scholarships through the project funded by the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH). The project is entitled as a “Small scale farming of High Value Marine Finfish as an Additional Livelihood for Coastal communities of Zanzibar”. It is a two-year research project aims at improving the livelihood of Zanzibar coastal communities through small-scale aquaculture activities by introducing high value marine species Silver pompano as well as environmentally friendly farming technology with affordable alternative feed. The research is among the selected projects for funding as it is related to the unique challenges within the Zanzibar communities, which differ from the rest of the Tanzanian community, as identified by development agenda of Zanzibar Development Vision 2020. The selected candidates will join a research team to carry out a research within specific objectives of the project and produce at least one manuscript for a publication.

Requirements:

Applicants must be admitted at the Institute of Marine Sciences of University of Dar es Salaam for MSc. in Marine Sciences with the following attributes.

  • An employee of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar
  • Submit admission Letter
  • Submit a motivational letter (Maximum 2 pages)
  • Submit a maximum of 2-page of Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Two colored passport size.
  • Willingness to work in a multi-disciplinary and multicultural team work.

 

Scholarship duration and coverage:

The MSc. scholarship will be for two years (24 months). The MSc. student will receive a full or partial scholarship over this time frame. The scholarship covers the University fees and direct student costs. The research costs will be covered by the project. The direct student costs are determined by the project management.

Applications that do not enclose all the documents required will not be considered for assessment. The applications and supporting documents should be submitted to the Director of Institute of Marine Sciences, opposite to Agha Khan Building, Mizingani Zanzibar during the working hours. The envelope should be marked with title “MSc. Scholarship Application for Small Scale Farming Project”.
