Esther F. Mvungi (PhD) is a Senior lecturer in the Department of Botany, College of Natural and Applied Sciences of the University of Dar es Salaam. Currently she is a Head of Department of Botany. Her research interest lies on understanding how plants (both terrestrial and aquatic) respond to abiotic and biotic stresses. She has also researched on plant systematics, particularly on Genus Coffea L using morphological and molecular approach. She has supervised a number of MSc. and PhD thesis/dissertations addressing various aspects related to plant responses to stressors, plant products and productivity. Dr. Mvungi has won various international and local awards including a one year CIRCLE Visiting Fellowship to the University of Cape Town (2017) under the support of Association of Commonwealth Universities through African Academy of Sciences, to assess the effect of climate changes on seagrasses productivity. Likewise, five UDSM competitive research awards in 2019, 2020 and 2021 as a Co-researcher addressing various aspects associated to plants. Findings of her researches have been widely disseminated via local and international peer reviewed publishing media.
