- BACHELOR OF ARTS IN PHILOSOPHY
Programme Expected Learning outcomes: At the end of the Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Ethnics, students will:
- Have developed habits of clear, critical thinking within the framework of both an adequate philosophical methodology and accepted norms of scholarship
- Have learned a though understanding of central subjects of contemporary philosophical thinking – such as ethnics, the philosophy of religion, the theory of knowledge or the philosophy of science.
iii. Have been introduced into the main methods of philosophy, in order to enable them to understand the works of the great philosophers and to provide them with the skills to do independent philosophical research by themselves.
- Have developed into future academic staff for the Department of philosophy and religious studies and also other academic institutions in Tanzania.
- After three years of philosophy, students would have acquired a wide range of transferrable skills that enable them to work in a wide range of fields, including international development, diplomacy, banking and finance, the arts, mass media, language services, law, education, policy, marketing, travel, advertising and social work. Since the programme has a focus on ethics and social philosophy, students will have particular opportunities in civil society, public service institutions and international organizations.
- The BA in philosophy and ethics will provide students with unique possibilities in the competitive job markets. Students who choose philosophy would have a possibility to gain expertise in other study field that would increase their job opportunities also- for example, in public service, in civil society, in private sector. In Tanzania, philosophy studies combined with another relevant subject would provide students with this wider academic background that would enable them to work, for example, in public administration, international politics, social work, or research and consultancy.
