Centre for Communication Studies

History and activities of the Centre

The Centre for Communication Studies (CCS) was established in 2013 from the former Communication Skills Unit (CSU) which was incorporated in the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguistics (FLL).

The centre has continued the then CSU’s role of teaching Communication Skills courses to the first year students. Such courses are divided into CL106: Communication Skills for Social Sciences and Humanities; CL107: Communication Skills for Sciences; CL108: Business Communication, and CL111: Communication for Engineering Students.

Currently, the Centre is developing an undergraduate degree programme in communication studies (Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies – BACS) which is expected to start in the academic year 2018/2019.

The Centre also offers other services/training (which is client tailored) such as: editing and proof-reading; interpretation and translation; interviewing skills; speaking skills and customer services.

MISSION OF THE CENTRE

The Centre for Communication Studies aims to become internationally renowned institute that explores a wide range of human communication disciplines.
