Professor William-Andey Lazaro Anangisye is the Vice Chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam since December 2017. Prof. Anangisye is a Professor of Education in the School of Education at the University of Dar es Salaam. He holds a PhD in Education from the Moray House School of Education, University of Edinburgh, Master of Arts in Education and Bachelor of Arts with Education (Hons) both from the University of Dar es Salaam.  Upon completion of his PhD in 2006, he returned to the University of Dar es Salaam as a Lecturer, and rose through the ranks to Associate Professor in 2012. He teaches educational foundational courses, including Professionalism and Ethics in Education, International and Comparative Education, Philosophy of Education, Sociology of Education, and History of Education.

Before his appointment to this top position at the University of Dar es Salaam, Prof. Anangisye was Principal, Dar es Salaam University College of Education (March 2015 - November 2017). He also served as Deputy Principal (Academic), Mkwawa University College of Education (May 2012 - March 2015); Associate Dean (Academic), University of Dar es Salaam School of Education (2009 - 2012) and Acting Head of the Department of Educational Foundations, Management and Lifelong Learning (2007 - 2009).

Prof. Anangisye has served in various boards in different capacities. He is chairperson of the Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB), National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA), and the Governing Boards of Mkwawa University College of Education and Dar es Salaam University College of Education. He is a member of boards and councils in Sokoine University of Agriculture, Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (Mbeya Centre), and Ruaha Catholic University (Iringa). At different times he has served as External Examiner of the Victoria University (New Zealand), University of Botswana (Botswana), University of Dodoma, Morogoro Muslim University, Open University of Tanzania, and Mzumbe University.

Professor Anangisye is an outstanding researcher who has researched and published widely in education mostly on professionalism and ethics in education. He is the author of more than 30 published academic articles in peer-reviewed journals.

He has written chapters in different books including, International Handbook on Teacher Education Worldwide: Issues and Challenges for Teacher Profession Vol. 1 (Athens: Atrapos Editions), Educational Reform in Southern Africa: Prospects for the New Millennium (Poschefstroom: North-West University), Comparative Education at Universities Worldwide, (Sofia: Bureau for Educational Services), The Triumph and Prosperity of Education in Africa (Pretoria: African Institute of South Africa), International Comparative Perspectives on Religion and Education (Bloemfontein: Sun Media) and Education in East and Central Africa (London: Bloomsbury Publishing). In 2014 Prof. Anangisye co-authored a book with Prof. Abel Ishumi titled Fifty Years of Education in Tanzania, 1961 - 2011: An Historical Account and Review: Dar es Salaam University Press.
