From Structural Engineer to Aviation Expert

Eng. Rehema Edward Myeya is a distinguished UDSM alumna whose professional journey has taken her from supervising concrete and steel structures to directing operations at one of Tanzania’s key international aviation gateways.

She currently serves as Director at Kilimanjaro International Airport, one of Tanzania’s key international aviation gateways and a strategic hub for tourism and regional connectivity.

“I have always believed that strong foundations, both in engineering and in personal discipline, are what allow one to take on bigger responsibilities.”

Career Journey

Rehema began her professional career as a Structural Engineer at SOU Consult from 2008 to 2009, working on residential, commercial, and religious buildings across Tanzania.

She later joined the Ministry of Works from 2009 to 2019, where she supervised the construction of the Terminal Building and associated facilities at Julius Nyerere International Airport, gaining hands-on experience in large-scale civil infrastructure projects.

In 2019, she transitioned to the Tanzania Airports Authority as Head of Technical Services for Terminal 3, managing operations, maintenance, and project execution for five years.

Her dedication and expertise led to senior leadership appointments, including Director at Julius Nyerere International Airport from 2023 to 2024, and currently Director at Kilimanjaro International Airport from October 2024 to present.

Leadership & Impact

In her current roles, Rehema oversees airport infrastructure, operational safety, and multi-stakeholder project management. Her leadership has been instrumental in ensuring operational readiness, compliance with international aviation standards, and innovative solutions to infrastructure challenges.

Her work demonstrates the importance of combining technical knowledge with strategic leadership, teamwork, and institutional responsibility.

Being accredited as an International Airport Professional by ICAO and ACI, Rehema actively contributes to discussions on aviation infrastructure and regional development.

Her engagement highlights the importance of integrating engineering expertise with strategic management. Her influence extends beyond daily airport operations to policy discussions and best practices in Tanzania’s aviation sector.

Academic Foundations & Lifelong Learning

Rehema’s BSc in Civil & Structural Engineering (Hons) from the University of Dar es Salaam, Class of 2008, provided the analytical and technical foundation for her career.

She later pursued further studies at Makerere University, Class of 2015, and holds a Master’s degree in Public Infrastructure Management.

“The University of Dar es Salaam gave me the technical tools and the confidence to tackle complex projects. Lifelong learning has been key to staying effective in leadership roles.”
