  • Health and Safety

The University of Dar es Salaam provides medical services to students, staff, and the general public. These services are available at the UDSM Hospital, located within the Mwl. J. K. Nyerere Mlimani Campus, the Mabibo Students' Hostel Dispensary near the main entrance at Mabibo Students' Hostels, the Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) in Zanzibar, and the Mineral Resource Institute (MRI) in Dodoma. First AID services are also available outside the main campus premises at various colleges and schools.

The hospital operates 24 hours a day, providing the following services; Emergency Services, General and Specialized Clinics, Inpatient Care, General Surgical Services, Diagnostic Services (Radiology & Laboratory), Dental and Oral Health Services, Eye and Optical Services, Care and Treatment for People Living with HIV/AIDS, Reproductive and Child Health Clinics, Maternity Services and Pharmacy Services

Students who fall ill during examinations must report to their respective departments and the hospital for treatment and further instructions. If you intend to postpone examinations or studies on medical grounds, you must provide an authentic medical report from a recognised health facility.

  • Health Insurance

The UDSM Hospital and its dispensaries are accredited to provide services to NHIF (National Health Insurance Fund) beneficiaries. You are advised to join the funds using the premium packages, after payment to the NHIF you will be provided NHIF Membership card which you will use it to access services at the UDSM Hospital and other accredited health facilities nationwide, the Premium packages include Najali Afya, Wekeza Afya and Timiza Afya. Students may join the scheme by downloading and fill the NHIF form then presenting them at any NHIF office for approval. For more information, please visit https://www.nhif.or.tz.
