Mathias B. Masaka is an Assistant Lecturer of Psychology in the Department of Sociology, College of Social Sciences at the University of Dar es Salaam. He holds a BA (Education), MA (Applied Social Psychology), and currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Education. His area of specialization is Social and Counseling Psychology and he has been teaching undergraduate courses such as Social Psychology, Educational Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Learning and Behaviour, Abnormal Psychology, and Psychology of Exceptional Children. His topics of research interest and counseling include power dynamics, prejudice, and aggression in intimate relationships; social cognition, social learning, social behaviour, and provision of psycho-social support for victims of violence and relationship break ups. His MA Dissertation was titled "Provision of Psycho-social Support for Child Victims of Trafficking under Institutional Care in Dar es Salaam Region" and his PhD thesis is titled "The Role of Women's Empowerment on Intimate Relationship Stability among University of Dar es Salaam Students". The philosophical and theoretical perspectives which guide his pursuit of knowledge and provision of counseling services are social constructivism, phenomenology, and social learning, humanistic, and sociocultural perspectives.
