Zuhura Selemani Khateeb possesses over ten years of experience in journalism specifically in radio writing, production and broadcasting. She has also engaged with television writing, reporting and presentation.

Zuhura holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, and a Masters of Arts in Media, Peace and Conflict Studies from the University for Peace in Costa Rica.

She has experience in curriculum development in areas of media, peacebuilding and conflict resolution. She developed a teaching curriculum on Media, Peace and Conflict titled ‘Media Role in Peace and Conflict’ (unpublished). She has an experience in Intercultural Competence and Communication acquired from Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, Netherlands. She has also acquired knowledge and skills in the areas of Gender, Children’s Rights, Peace and Conflict Reporting, Mobile Journalism (MOJO), Election Reporting as well as Community Media and New Technology.

She currently serves as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam, School of Journalism and Mass Communication. In this role, she facilitates theory and practical learning in media writing, production and broadcasting regarding professionalism, gender balance and children’s rights. She is also serving as Coordinator of the Diploma in Journalism Programme. Before, she was the Head of the Journalism Unit and a Gender Focal Point. She coordinated SJMC programmes including the UNICEF Child Rights Programme, the Exchange programme between The Hamburg University of Applied Science, the Institute of Media Centre (IMC) and The University of Dar es Salaam, School of Journalism and Mass Communication. During the exchange, Zuhura coordinated the production of audiobooks and video documentaries. She was an Assistant Project Coordinator for UNESCO Support on the online Diploma Programme for Community Media Journalists. She was also engaged as an SJMC research assistant in investigating the 2012 Form four poor results in Mwanza and Mara regions.

On different occasions, she co-developed the Zanzibar House of Representatives strategic plan, TAMWA training curriculum on Media and GBV, and a peer-reviewed MCT training manual on gender and the media. She was the researcher on the Gender and Media Progress Study (GMPS) led by Gender Links South Africa and Global Media Monitoring Programme (GMMP) led by The World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) Canada.  Recently, she facilitated the East Africa Legislative Assembly on the Peer-to-Peer Regional Learning Event for Parliamentarians with the theme: Enhancing Voice & Choice: Women Lead Africa.

She worked as a volunteer for over ten years with Radio Five Arusha, Radio Kili Fm Kilimanjaro and Radio Mlimani Fm in Dar es Salaam.  She was an editor and contributor for the techno-Mambo magazine; a computer technology and application magazine and an Aviation magazine.

Zuhura is a leader nurtured by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) through Youth Leadership Training Programme (YLTP) in Tanzania. She has received several pieces of training and coaching in the areas of media production and broadcasting from the BBC, VOA and DW Akademie.

As a facilitator, mentor and trainer; she has worked as a trainer and consultant for local and international institutions including HakiElimu, EWURA, MCT, Tanzania Media Association (TAMWA), Gender Links South Africa, UN Women, World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) Canada, International IDEA, SOS Village Tanzania, TRA, Zanzibar House of Representatives as well as several broadcasting journalists.
