Dr. Stephen Nnungu is a Molecular Plant Physiologist and Plant Biotechnologist with expertise in plant tissue culture. For many years, his research has focused on tomato varieties and their response to biotic stress especially fusarium wilt, a devastating fungal disease of tomatoes) and abiotic stress (drought, heat and salinity). He has also worked concurrently on developing tomato varieties for high yield and large fruit size.

Recently, his research interest extended to organic agriculture, and the nutritional content of crops. He is expressing his passion for biodiversity conservation through micro propagation of endangered plants such as African blackwood and many underutilized medicinal plants.

He has supervised a number of Undergraduate research projects, MSc. And PhD thesis/dissertation and published several articles/papers in local and international journals.
