Dr. Nelson Boniface (PhD) a Senior Lecturer of Geology at the Department of Geology, University of Dar es Salaam. He is a graduate of the University of Dar es Salaam (BSc. Hons and MSc in Geology) and the University of Kiel (PhD in Mineralogy: Magna Cum Laude).

He is a current Acting Director of Undergraduate Studies of the University of Dar es Salaam.

Research Interest:

  • Dynamics and mountain building processes of the ancient metallic mineral and gemstone provinces (Proterozoic Orogenic Belts of Tanzania)
  • Processes of rifting, opening of ocean basins and formation of oil-gas deposits (Structural aspects of the Phanerozoic Sedimentary Coastal basins of Tanzania).
  • Characteristics of strategic and rare earth element (REE) deposits (e.g. Nb, Ta, Ti) in the current and ancient rifts.

He has supervised and co-supervised PhD and MSc graduates at the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), Brest University (France), Utrecht University (The Netherlands), and Tohoku University (Japan).

 

His is a co-author of the Minerogenic Map of Tanzania (book, software, and map) and has authored and co-authored a number of papers and letters published in Journals indexed by preeminent academic databases e.g. Scopus (ELSEVIER), J-Gate, GeoRef etc.
