PROFESSIONAL SERVICE

Mwajabu K.  Possi has been working at the University of  Dar es Salaam since 1987.  She has served as the Head of Department of Educational Psychology as well as the Director of the UDSM School of Journalism and Mass Communication.  She is currently the Head of Department of Social Sciences in The UDSM Mbeya College of Health and Allied Sciences. Prior to her employment at the University of Dar es Salaam, she served at the Ministry of Education and Vocational training Headquarters as an officer in the Primary Education section, dealing with general administration and Special Needs Education.

RESEARCH INTEREST AND PUBLICATIONS

Prof.  Possi’s   areas of research interest are in Special Needs Education, Educational Psychology, Gender Psychology, Psychology of Ageing (Gerontology) and Social medicine. She has conducted research, offered consultancy services and published widely in the areas. Some of her publications out of consultancy and research include: 

Inclusion and Equity in Education for People with Special Educational Needs, Helping Behavior and Self-Esteem of students with disability in Inclusive Schooling, Perceptions on People with Albinism in Tanzania, Special and Inclusive Education in Tanzania, Challenges of Educating Students with Disabilities in Tanzania Secondary School Inclusive Education Settings, Learner diversity in the classrooms, Language of Instruction, Gender and Disability, Employment of People with Disabilities, and the Impact of Toxicity and

Environmental Pollution on Physical and Mental Health.  Other works include:  The Challenge for Adult Educators, the Relevance of Special Schools for the Gifted and Talented in Tanzania Education System, Challenge of Globalization to Children with Disabilities, Perceived causes of visual disability. Stigma and people with disability, Streaming in Higher Education, Effects of drug abuse on cognitive and social behaviors, Culture and Disability and superstitious behavior towards people with albinism, as well as Attitudes of business, pre-medicine, special, elementary education majors on euthanasia of People with mental retardation.
