Ms. Jenitha Kanyanyinyi Rugaika is an assistant lecturer at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) of the University of Dar es salaam (UDSM). She works as an academic, researcher and consultant in mass communication industry, being expert particularly in public relations, strategic communication, media relations, gender and public relations, crisis communication management, public relations for non-profits and psychology of advertising. She has taught undergraduate courses and supervised research in the same areas for more than 12 years.

Ms. Rugaika holds a BA in Mass Communication (majoring in public relations) from St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) and an MA in international public relations from Cardiff University, United Kingdom.  She is currently pursuing a PhD in Journalism and Mass Communication at SJMC-UDSM.

She has provided consultancy services for various organizations and institutions including Energy and Water Utility Regulatory Authority (EWURA); HakiElimu; Private Agricultural Sector Support (PASS) Trust; Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete Foundation, Dar es salaam Rapid Transport’s (DART); WEKEZA; Africa Empowerment; Tanzania Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children.

As a trainer, Ms. Rugaika has conducted several professional trainings on public relations, media relations, journalism, crisis communication, strategic public relations, and public relations ethics for communication practitioners such as Airtel communication officers, EWURA Consumer Consultative Council members, Tanzania Ethics Commission secretariat officers, Zanzibar government communication officers, SOS Children's Villages communication specialists etc.

 

At SJMC-UDSM, Ms. Rugaika had been assigned with the duty of serving as a Head of Public relations and Advertising Unit (2014-2020) and Coordinator of Practical Training (2012-2016). She has also worked as a mentor for UDSM Public Relations and Advertising Students’ Association (UDRASA) (2014-2020) and currently volunteers as the Capacity Building Committee member under Public Relations Society of Tanzania (PRST) (2018-to date).
